Research Highlights

Amara Initiative

“AMARA” is a spirited citizen-driven project, launched on World Environment Day, June 5, 2025, as a collaborative effort led by the District Administration, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), Karnataka Forest Department (KFD), and CFAL Research Centre, under the leadership of its Trustee, Mr. Vijay Moras, and Dr. Smitha Hegde, Director of Research, along with the CFAL and ELC students and teams.

BAIL Project

Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) isn’t just a gateway for millions of passengers each year, it’s also one of the world’s most eco-conscious aviation hubs. Nestled in a rapidly urbanising region, KIA’s green infrastructure plays a crucial role in regulating local climate, supporting biodiversity, and setting a benchmark for sustainable design.

Trees of Mangalore

The Trees of Mangalore project by CFAL’s Research Centre aims to create the city’s first comprehensive tree census and database, combining scientific fieldwork with community participation.

Herbarium

In a rapidly changing climate, preserving and studying our plant heritage is as critical as planting new trees. A herbarium ensures that Mangalore’s green legacy is recorded, understood, and protected, leaf by leaf, specimen by specimen.

Mangrove Plantations

Mangalore’s identity has always been tied to its rivers, estuaries, and coastline. Yet, along these shorelines lies a lesser-known but powerful ally in the fight against climate change and pollution- the mangrove

Mysore Tree Count

Mysuru’s iconic tree-lined avenues and lakesides are part of its charm and environmental strength. However, formal, comprehensive tree counting in the city remains limited. Experts and environmentalists have long urged for a structured tree census to better monitor and manage this vital urban heritage.

Centre for Ecological Studies

A Centre for Ecological Studies (CES) is a dedicated hub for researching, documenting, and understanding the intricate relationships between living organisms and their environment. It brings together ecologists, climatologists, botanists, marine biologists, and data scientists to study ecosystems, assess environmental changes, and create actionable solutions for conservation and sustainable development.
